DubCO recently had the pleasure to speak with Stephan Jacobs who will be bringing his dub/glitch-hop sound to the stage in the Groove Tent at the SnowBall Music Festival this Sunday, March 4th at 12:45PM. While speaking with Stephan we had the chance to talk about the upcoming SnowBall Music Festival, his up-coming East Coast tour with The Polish Ambassador, and his ties to the local music scene right here in Colorado.
-Dubstep Colorado (DubCO): Have you ever played a SnowSeries festival before?
-Stephan Jacobs (SJ): I played SnowGlobe a few months ago in Tahoe, but it wasn’t snowing. I haven’t played anywhere this cold before, this will be a first.
-DubCO: Were there any artists there that you were looking forward to see?
-SJ: I was only there for Thursday during the festival, but one of my favorites is Pretty Lights, of course. He was playing the night I was there and it was a great show.
-DubCO: Have you ever been out to Denver before? What do you think about the electronic scene we have out here in Colorado?
-SJ: It’s one of my favorite places to play, no question. [My music] is just so well received in Colorado. It’s exactly what you want. People [in Denver] are all about [electronic] music and they show you the excitement and love you would hope to be given as an artist.
-DubCO: Speaking of Colorado, DubCO heard a track, Rubber Bands, that you released on February 28th with Jansten. How did that all come about?
-SJ: We initially met at the Bounce Festival last year, but we had been talking on-line before that. I then headlined Cervantes Masterpiece Ballroom [in Denver] and he was direct support, which was awesome. We were there and we decided that we should collaborate on a track and now we have Rubber Bands.
-DubCO: You just released MAD ERA & In the Vortex REMIXED on BEATPORT today, February 29th. What was it like seeing your work being remixed by other artists?
-SJ: I believe MAD ERA & In the Vortex REMIXED just released in the last couple hours on BEATPORT, very exciting. I first took time and figured out the sound that I wanted for the album and sent out parts to a handful of artists. All of the remixes really stood out and exceeded my expectations. The remixes are all excellent, but ONE4ALL really surprised me with his remix. I wasn't expecting that and I really like what he did.
-DubCO: After SnowBall you’re hitting the road and going to the East Coast with The Polish Ambassador. This sounds like a fun tour, tell us about what you’re expecting.
-SJ: Basically right after SnowBall I’m going to Boston to start the tour. I played a show in Eugene with The Polish Ambassador about a year and a half ago, it went well...really well. What I really enjoy about playing with David (The Polish Ambassador) is that our sounds are different, but so enticing when put together. He approached me for this East Coast run and we both have been feeling really good about it, this just feels like a great package. It’s a perfect introduction to a new audience that I’ve never played for and I’m always excited to share my music with new people.
-DubCO: Tell our readers who you are you looking forward to seeing at SnowBall?
-SJ: Beats Antique…those guys are my homies. I’ve done a remix for them in the past. I'm also excited for Bassnectar, Lorin is a really nice guy. There is so much good talent on this bill…Snoop Dogg and Big Boi, oh yeah. I remember when they announced each of them, I just thought this would be a great festival.
Stephan Jacobs will be playing the SnowBall Music Festival on Sunday March 4th in the Groove Tent @ 12:45PM. He’s currently working on his first album that is slated for a summertime release and you can expect to hear a few new bangers mixed into his set this weekend! Make sure you check out the latest release, MAD ERA & In the Vortex REMIXED, and snag it from BEATPORT right HERE! Get tickets for his upcoming shows with The Polish Ambassador, HERE!
